Today, we will see that Jesus came to die To Abolish Circumcision and All Rituals as the Basis of Salvation
The early church faced a major controversy: Was circumcision necessary for salvation? For centuries, it was a sacred command (Genesis 17:10), deeply embedded in Jewish identity. Christ was Jewish, as were His apostles and the first believers. Naturally, Jewish customs carried over into the church.
But as the gospel spread to the Gentiles, the question arose: Is faith in Christ alone enough, or are rituals required? The apostles preached salvation by faith alone. Peter declared:
“All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” (Acts 10:43, NIV)
Paul reinforced this truth:
“Through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.” (Acts 13:38-39, NIV)
Yet, some insisted on circumcision:
“Unless you are circumcised… you cannot be saved.” (Acts 15:1, NIV)
Paul stood firm. Adding rituals to faith undermined the cross:
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1, NIV)
The gospel is clear—faith in Christ alone saves!
