This Lenten Season, we are reflecting on the Question #WhyJesusCametoDie based on John Piper’s book Fifty reasons why jesus came to die.
Today we are looking at the 4th Reason – To Achieve His Own Resurrection from the Dead
The Bible teaches us resurrection is not just an event that followed Christ’s death, instead the Bible teaches us that “by the shedding of the blood” Jesus was resurrected. Jesus was not just raised after His blood -shedding, but by it.
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20-21
To paraphrase scripture, God brought our Jesus again from the dead by the blood of the eternal covenant. Jesus’s death accomplished the requirements of God’s Justice, It fully absorbed the wrath of God (Reason 1), Jesus’s as the wrath-bearer pleased His heavenly father and received His love (Reason 2) and Jesus perfected righteousness through His obedience in Pain (Reason 3).
As a Reward & Vindication of what Jesus accomplised by the shedding of the blood, Jesus was raised from the dead. Resurrection was the reward and vindication of Christ’s achievement in death.
To bring out the themes of this series, I was relying on Artificial Intelligence for the past two posts. Today my better half drew this picture of the empty tomb that portrays the theme “Resurrection was the reward and vindication of Christ’s achievement in death” in the most appropriate way. We really needn’t worry AI, it can’t catch up with Human Intelligence.
As the scripture says in Hebrews 13:21, this vindication of Christ, equips us to do God’s will through Jesus Christ for His Glory.
The questions that we need to answer are…
- Are we doing God’s will?
- What is our testimony of “Christ working in us”?
- Are our deeds pleasing in His sight?
- Is Christ glorified through us?
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
