We are in Day 11 of Lent. I had a slack, after Day 7, I missed out on Days 8,9 & 10. So far we have looked at 8 Reasons as to #WhyJesusCametoDie.
Reason 1 Reason 2 Reason 3 Reason 4 Reason 5 Reason 6 & 7 Reason 8
So far the reasons we saw were related to God, the relationship between God & Jesus Christ and God’s plan through Jesus Christ. Going forward, we will look at How the death of Jesus is impacting each one of us. Today we will look at four such reasons
- Reason 9 – For the forgiveness of our sins
- Reason 10 – To provide the basis for our Justification
- Reason 11 – To complete the obedience that becomes our Righteousness
- Reason 12 – To take away Our Condemnation
When a law is broken by a person – The Person is Unjust and is not right and the person deserves a punishment (condemnation). The realization of being Unjust makes the person guilty.
Let’s assume a person A physically harms a person B. Person B, the Victim here could forgive Person A. This is what Jesus did, he forgave our sins. Acts 10:43 tells us the same
everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
Acts 10:43
In our illustration, the Victim (Person B) has a forgiving spirit and he/she forgives person A. But in the context of the society in which this incident of assault happened, there is a need for justice. Not everyone who indulges in physical assault be forgiven. Through Justification either the assault has to be canceled/nullified or person A has to declared Unjust and punished. It’s a legal requirement.
By God’s Standard, In God’s court; Justification is further more significant. A wicked person justified is an abomination to God (Proverbs 17:15). That is why it was important for Christ to shed His blood for our Justification and we are removed of our guilt.
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him
Romans 5:9
Removal of guilt and Justified doesn’t mean we are right. What has happened is the record – “Person A assaulting Person B” has been cancelled or it has been removed. The question is how will “Person A be counted as if he never assaulted person B”. Is it really possible? That’s exactly what Jesus’s Christ obedience and submission has achieved for us. We are counted righteous because we trust Christ; we have faith in Christ.
9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
Philippians 3:9
The punishment for sin has also been waived off for those who believe in Christ. The consequences of the sin will exist. It will be the reaction of the world & worldly laws to the sin committed. However, God in His Mercy & Grace doesn’t condemn our sins.
1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus
Romans 8:1
34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died —more than that, who was raised to life —is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Romans 8:34
Jesus’s death brings Forgiveness for sins, Justification of the sinner, Imputation of Righteousness on the believing sinner & taking away condemnation from the sinner. Our Saviour removes the penalty & guilt of our sins.
Yes, I am Forgiven, Justified, Counted Righteous & Not Condemned. What is my response to this wonderful Saviour?
