Why Jesus Came to Die? This could be a good question for us to mediate upon/think upon this Lenten season that starts from today (22/02/2023)
John Piper in his book “Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die” illustrates 50 reasons as to why Jesus came to Die.
The first reason is – “To absorb the wrath of God“
Apostle John writes in his first Epistle about because of His love, he sent Christ.
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:10 (ESV)
We violated God’s command in Deuteronomy 6:5
5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

God is Just and we are not, God Loves us; but we don’t. Because God is Just, there is need for His son to suffer & die. If God wasn’t Loving, there wouldn’t be a willingness to send His Son for us.
Our God is Loving & Just. Jesus Christ’s suffering and death is to absorb the wrath of God. It’s God’s boundless love meeting the Demands of God’s Perfect Justice.
