In our last post, Where is Jesus now?, we looked at the current reality of our King seated at the Father’s right hand, interceding for us. But the story of “the Faith People” doesn’t end with a King in a distant heaven. It ends with the King coming home.

The ascension was not a “goodbye”; it was a “see you soon.” Today, we look at the climax of history—the return of Jesus Christ.

The Promise of His Presence

Will Jesus return? The answer is a resounding Yes. When Jesus ascended, the angels gave a clear promise: “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11).

Jesus will return personally and physically. This won’t be a secret event or a purely “spiritual” metaphor. Just as He left in a body, He will return in a body. As the Apostle John writes, “Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him” (Revelation 1:7).

What Can We Expect?

For the believer, the return of Christ is not something to fear, but the “Blessed Hope” we long for. While the world speculates on dates and timelines, Jesus was clear: He will return at exactly the moment God has planned, a day and hour that no one knows but the Father (Matthew 24:36).

When that moment arrives, it will be unmistakable. He will come with a loud command, the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet call of God. He will appear in great glory (Luke 21:27), marking the end of this present age and the beginning of the age to come.

The Final Victory and the New Earth

We understand that Jesus is reigning now from His heavenly throne, and His return marks the final consummation of His Kingdom. When He appears, several things happen simultaneously:

  1. Resurrection: Jesus will give God’s children resurrected bodies like His own—perfect, incorruptible, and fit for eternity (John 5:25-29).
  2. Judgment: He will right every wrong. He will judge the world, Satan, and his demons (Revelation 20:10). Those who have rejected the Gospel will face everlasting destruction, while the righteous will be vindicated (2 Thessalonians 1:5-10).
  3. Restoration: Jesus will usher in the New Heaven and the New Earth. This isn’t about us escaping to a ghost-like existence in the clouds; it’s about God bringing Heaven to Earth. We will reign with Him in a kingdom that has no end (Revelation 21:1-5).
No More Tears

The most beautiful part of His return is the intimacy of His presence. Revelation 21:3-4 tells us that God’s dwelling place will be among His people. He will live with us forever. In that Kingdom, He will personally wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death, no more mourning, no more crying, and no more pain. The brokenness of the fall will be completely reversed, just as God always intended.

A Call to Action for Believers

If you truly believe the King is coming, it should change how you live today:

  • Live with Urgency: If the King could return at any moment, are we sharing the Gospel with those who don’t know Him?
  • Live with Holiness: We are a Bride preparing for her Groom. Does our character reflect our future home?
  • Live with Hope: Your current pain has an expiration date. The King is coming to make all things new.

Reflect: If Jesus were to return this evening, would you meet Him with a sense of “finally!” or a sense of “not yet”?
