In our last post, Our Prophet, Priest, and King, we saw how Jesus perfectly fulfills the roles of truth-teller, bridge-builder, and sovereign ruler. But after the cross and the empty tomb, the story doesn’t just fade into history.

It leads to a question that every believer—and many seekers—has asked: Where is Jesus now? If He is a real person who rose from the dead, where did He go, and what is He doing at this very moment? For “the Faith People,” the answer is the secret to our daily strength.

The Gospel doesn’t end with an empty grave; it continues with an occupied throne. Three days after His death and burial, Jesus came back to life in a glorified, resurrected body. He didn’t immediately vanish; He spent 40 intentional days teaching His disciples, proving He was physically alive (Acts 1:1-3).

Then, while His followers watched, He ascended. He returned to heaven, not as a ghost, but as the God-Man (Acts 1:10-11). Today, Jesus is alive in heaven, seated at the right hand of the Father—the highest position of power and authority in the universe (Ephesians 1:19-21).

The “Debate”: If Jesus has a body, why can we not see Him?

This is where our finite minds often hit a wall. If Jesus rose in a new resurrection body—the “first fruits” of the perfect, undecayable bodies we will one day receive (1 Corinthians 15:20) —then why is He invisible to us now?

The answer lies in the beautiful tension of His nature:

  • As a Man: Jesus’s physical body is in one location. Forty days after the resurrection, the disciples watched that physical body ascend into heaven (Acts 1:3). He is physically “at the Father’s right hand” (Romans 8:34).
  • As God: Jesus is not limited by space. He is “before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17).

While we cannot see His physical body with our eyes today, He is present in all God’s children through the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-21). He is “with us always,” even while being “seated there.” We don’t see Him now because He is currently serving in the heavenly sanctuary, but the Bible promises a day is coming when He will return in that same body (Acts 1:11), and every eye will see Him.

What is He doing right now?

Jesus isn’t just “waiting” in heaven; He is working. The author of Hebrews gives us the most comforting update on Jesus’s current activity: He is interceding for us. “He is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them” (Hebrews 7:25).

Think about that: The King of the universe is currently praying for you. He knows your struggles, your weaknesses, and your name. He is our Great High Priest who never sleeps, constantly representing us before the Father.

A Call to Action for Believers

Knowing where Jesus is should change how you live today.

  1. Lift your eyes: If you feel overwhelmed by earthly chaos, remember your King is seated above it all (Ephesians 1:21).
  2. Pray with confidence: You aren’t shouting into a void. You have an Advocate in the “throne room” who is actively speaking on your behalf.
  3. Live in hope: Your current struggle isn’t the end of the story. You serve a living Savior who has already blazed the trail into eternity.
