In our quest for this lenten season on #WhyJesusCametoDie, the first reason we saw was ” “To absorb the wrath of God“. Today we will look at the Second reason as to #WhyJesusCametoDie?
The Second reason that Jesus came to die is “To please His Heavenly Father”
It was God’s grand plan and purpose to have Jesus suffer & die for the sake of humanity. God, through His Prophet Isaiah revealed that Jesus will be “pierced for our transgressions” and “by Jesus’s wounds we are healed”.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions;
Isaiah 53:5
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
The Bible also adds that this was the will of God.
10 Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him;
Isaiah 53:10a
he has put him to grief;
We see Jesus completely surrendering to this plan of God. Jesus did not seek Mercy to escape the Wrath of God. This leads to a great Paradox in the New testament. Jesus suffering is because of the outpouring of God’s Wrath that he borne for the “sins of the world”. In the cross, feeling the magnitude of God’s Wrath, Jesus cried…
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Matthew 27:46b
Yet, this immense sacrifice of Jesus Christ was a fragrance to God.
1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2
Ephesians 5:1-2
This is the Paradox – The Wrath-bearer, Jesus Christ was infinitely loved by God, the father who also poured out the Wrath on Jesus Christ. Jesus to please God the Father became the Wrath-bearer and God loved Him beyond limits.
On this lenten Season, we are called to make Christ’s love contagious. We have to do the Will of God & lead lives pleasing to Him. Christ the wrath-bearer was infinitely loved. We the doers of God’s will are infinitely loved too.
