The greatest commandment Jesus gave us was about love.
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:30-31
If we were to rate ourselves on how we fair with this commandment, we certainly would realize the huge gap that exists between Jesus’ expectation & what we are. Our change is slow and we are constantly remembered of our nature. Apostle Paul writes in his epistle to Romans
18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. ………… 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?
Romans 7:18 & 24
However, the death of Jesus on the cross makes us Holy, Blameless & Perfect. It also gives us a guilt-free conscience.
In our continuing Series WhyJesusCametoDie? we are going to look at these two Reasons
Reason 15: To make us Holy, Blameless & Perfect
Reason 16: To give us a clear conscience
22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation
Colossians 1:22
This truth gives us the resolve to look un to Christ, every time our we feel guilty of our Actions. Our Conscience turns us back to Christ, who makes us holy and blameless. It is a process of getting better minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour & day-by-day. It is a process of living for Christ becoming more like him in His likeness – Christ likeness.
The Epistle of Hebrew explains this process of becoming Christ like…our pursuit to Christ-likeness is sanctification.
14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
Hebrews 10:14 (NIV)
We are being made holy. The word being is important here and it emphasizes the fact that it’s a continuum. Some bible versions this verse is translated as 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10:14 (ESV). It’s important to understand our pursuit to Christ-likeness is enabled only by God sanctifying us, because we are being sanctified.
Just quoting one more verse which reinforces this fact to us
14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
Hebrews 9:14
We are made Holy, Blameless & Perfect in His Sight; Our consciences are cleansed; Our Guilt is wiped away. How Great is His Love !! Let’s Serve HIM !! Let’s Love HIM !!
To be more like Jesus. This is my prayer. I backside but my spirit convicts me.
