Starting this post with a disclaimer: I don’t usually watch many films, nor do I claim expertise in movie reviews. However, I felt compelled to share my reflections on the beautiful cinematic experience that is Amaran.
This film gracefully brings to life the inspiring and captivating true story of Major Mukund Vardharajan and Indhu Rebecca Varghese. With every frame crafted to perfection, the movie captures the essence of their journey with immense elegance. The entire team behind this masterpiece deserves a standing ovation.
Siva Karthikeyan and Sai Pallavi embody Major Mukund and Indhu with such authenticity that they seem to step right out of real life and onto the screen. Sai Pallavi’s performance, in particular, stands out as she breathes life into her character with remarkable depth and emotion.
I just want to draw two insights of practical living from this movie. Not everyone can serve the Army, but Major. Mukund Vardharajan gives us an important message through his life. A take-away for each one of us, It’s about “Knowing Your Purpose & Living for it“. Our short stay as a Sojourn in this earth has a Purpose & Meaning; It’s basically about making a difference in the lives of people within your influence. Drawing parallel’s to the typical corporate set-up; Life is not about lofty goals, Its not about the rat race, its not about targets. Its just about impacting lives around us. Mukund went a step further, he was self-less. Be it risking his life to rescue a solider who was kidnapped or to save a fellow solider who misfired a bullet on him or when he took the decision to take on the militants to save the common man; Mukund didn’t was putting the interests and welfare of others over his own. It’s a value that’s not just to be practiced in Army. It’s value that we can practice in every field of work. Our larger purpose is to make a difference / make an impact to the lives of people within our influence.
The second insight, I draw is about love. Love is central in Marriage. There is Power in Love. The love between Mukund and Indhu is the heart of this story, woven through moments of sacrifice and resilience in their never-ending long-distance relationship. Amaran shows us that love is far more than romantic gestures; it is pure, selfless, and sacrificial. It’s the kind of love that has the power to transform lives, something that Sai Pallavi’s nuanced portrayal conveys so poignantly.
There is Power in love. Mahatma Gandhi who practiced Resistance through Love for our freedom once said and I quote “where there is love, there is life and where there is love there is light.” Amaran movie does shows us life of Mukund & Indhu knitted in love which glows brightly. Love not just in it’s romantic form, Love that is not conditional, not selfish…Love that’s Pure, Love that’s caring, Love that’s sharing, Love that’s sacrificial. This love that is unselfish, unconditional, sacrificial, redemptive has the Power to change the World. The Power of love is what we see in this Story.
Reflecting back on the first insight, we need love to truly impact lives. I would like quote Zig Ziglar a famous motivational speaker, He said “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want“. It’s a profound statement. Amaran exemplifies this idea beautifully—a reminder for us all to live lives of purpose rooted in love.
There’s Transformative Power in Love. I just want to close this with a Christian Spiritual thought & thought from Vallalar. For those interested, read on, others may choose to stop here.
Jesus was once asked by a Lawyer, basically the lawyer was trying to trap him. He asked him Out of all the laws thats mentioned in Bible which is the greatest and most important. Jesus summed up it just 2 things. Jesus said and I quote
Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
If we were to ask, How does Love get this Transformative Power? The answer is simple, Love is from God, God is the source of Love & God is love.
Vallalar writes in this Thiruvarudpaa that God is love.
The ultimate act of love was God’s, who manifested Himself in Jesus Christ as the epitome of Love. He identified himself with Lost, least, last of the society, He gave his life for the entire Human race & rose again on the 3rd Day. It was an act of love that brought hope to the lost and light to the world. God loved everyone. The love Mukund and Indhu shared reflects this divine love, leaving a profound lesson for us to carry forward.
Amaran means Immortal. Indeed, Love is Immortal !!
