I am God’s creation, created in His own image. My purpose in life will be to know him better, love him and glorify him. I get true satisfaction and peace, when I know God, love God and Glorify God.
One may have several questions and doubts on the above statement. This is a spiritual truth spoken in the Bible.
In, Genesis 1:26 God said “Let us make mankind in our own image, in our likeness..”. Being in God’s image, we are responsible to reveal God’s character. All creation of God reveals something about God – the stars, the mountains. We are made to reveal God’s character, when we do that we glorify God.
The psalmist in Psalm 16:11 sings “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand”
We may have a question as isn’t life about achieving my desires, my potential, make friends and enjoy life? It is true that we should be successful in life, a successful school, career or business. But this success never completes us. Goodness has to be tasted and God is good and God invites us to taste him (Psalm 34:8). Knowing God will make us complete. (Proverbs 9:10)
During the Sermon of the Mount, Jesus insists us to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven, he says “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. He calls us not be worried and says “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”.
Having God central to our lives, will help us reveal God. People will see God’s Goodness through us. Our purpose in life will have a meaning and we will be truly satisfied.
Shall we look to the God in prayer reflecting this truth? Our father in heaven, we thank and praise you for creating us in your own image and in your likeness. Help us to come closer to you, taste your goodness, love you with all of our heart and glorify your name. Give us your peace and happiness, In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
